Saif Ali Khan met up recently with an elite bunch of schoolmates at Boodle’s, a super-exclusive gentleman’s club in the UK
After his flight scare on September 30 on board a BA aircraft, Saif Ali Khan reached London the next day to attend a 20 Years-on Reunion Dinner (October 1) at the prestigious club Boodle’s on St James Street and flew back to Mumbai on October 3.
Says a source close to Saif, “Saif had studied at Winchester College and has kept in touch with most of his fellow students from there – people who are established icons in the business world today (including businessman and politicians).
On October 1, Saif and about 25 distinguished gentlemen from various corners of the globe met at Boodle’s club in London and spent partying till the wee hours of the morning. Boodle’s offers membership to a select few and is patronized only by the super rich who have memberships to the club.
Boodle’s is the second oldest club in the world, the oldest being White’s at London.”
The source adds that it was a boys’ night out with Saif hobnobbing with his elite group of friends. “Saif was thrilled to catch up with his friends after a span of two years.
It was strictly formal attire – dinner jacket with tie – an outfit that Saif loves too. Saif partied till morning, rested the next day, did some shopping, met up with his other friends in London and flew back again on Saturday afternoon to be back in Mumbai with girlfriend Kareena Kapoor.”
Initially, Saif had studied at the Lawrence School Sanawar but later attended Lockers Park Prep School. Later, he attended Winchester College, a famous school for boys in UK where his father Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi had also studied in.
Boodle’s is a London gentleman’s club, founded in 1762. The club came to be known after the name of its headwaiter Edward Boodle.
As a Muslim I feel proud I did Kurbaan: Saif Ali Khan
By: IANS Date: 2009-09-26 Place: Mumbai
His Love Aaj Kal has completed 50 days at the box office and has earned more than Rs 65 crore just within India. Now actor-producer Saif Ali Khan is looking forward to Kurbaan – a film he admits he is proud of having acted in being a Muslim.
“As a Muslim I feel proud of the fact that I have done this film. This is one of the most socially relevant films today. It is good that it is coming at just the time when our country needs cinema like this,” Saif said in an interview.
Set in the US, Kurbaan is a romantic thriller with terrorism as its backdrop. A Karan Johar production directed by debutant Rensil D’Silva, Kurbaan also stars Kareena Kapoor, Vivek Oberoi, Dia Mirza, Kirron Kher and Om Puri. It is slated to release November 27.
Saif reveals that he now has a new career plan in place. “I would now be working on two-three films a year and make sure that I cover a wide spectrum. While a couple of them would be big, nice commercial films, another would be a relatively smaller film that can be completed in 30 days flat.”
After Love Aaj Kal, his next production venture is Agent Vinod. But shooting for the film is still a little distance away.
“Final touches on the script are being given and we have been looking at getting the best technicians on board. I guess by the end of this year, we should begin shooting.
“In any case I am in no tearing hurry to ready my next film. One should space things out, invest good time to publicise things and get the right preparation in place for the making of the film,” said Saif.
He is also careful that his personal life, especially his health, doesn’t suffer due to his professional commitments.
“It is of paramount importance that one looks after the body as well as brain. I go to the gym regularly as well as spend some good time with family. As far as work is concerned, I have certainly become even more serious about production after Love Aaj Kal.
“We have learnt quite some lessons after the release of our first film and the idea is to leverage from some mistakes that we may have made. My investment as a producer is bound to increase from here on.”
Meanwhile, the success of Love Aaj Kal and Race (2008) have made it closer for him to the top-five league. While Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Akshay Kumar, Hrithik Roshan and Salman Khan are firmly placed in the top league, Saif too is not that far away.
“I don’t know much about that. All such number placements are for other people to state, study and analyse. As for me, I know today that I’m in a position to make the film that I want to make. I am also confident that the film I would make will carry some meaning to people. My project should now carry certain amount of weight and direction and for that one has to be a bankable star.”
He continues to shrug away the entire numbers game.
“This number business is quite fluctuating actually; so one should not be worried about it. What you should worry about more is that now since people have higher expectations from you, you should deliver even better in your next assignments,” Saif said.

Agent Vinod, Saif Ali Khan’s next outing as a producer, stars ladylove Kareena Kapoor. But in the movie, Bebo works with the evil guys! Saif who plays the title character has to figure out if she is the gangster’s moll or simply a girl caught in their web as a victim of circumstance.
Says a source, “Kareena’s character works for a bunch of corporate honchos who want to rake in the profits from a war-like scenario in the Asian subcontinent. Agent Vinod, who is chasing them, has to first decide whether he can trust her because he believes in the dictum – your first mistake could also be your last!”
Adds the source, “Though Agent Vinod can crack cases even with the most cryptic clues, when it comes to the Kapoor girl’s persona, he can’t resort to his trademark antic – as someone who first rips the door open and then finds out what’s behind it.”
In a new light
A source close to Kareena admits that her role is “shocking” in the film. “It’s something Bebo hasn’t attempted before. She’s not paired romantically with Saif. People will be stunned to see Kareena in a new light.”
Incidentally, Bebo made her displeasure felt when director Imtiaz Ali cast Deepika Padukone in Saif’s first home production, Love Aaj Kal. For Agent Vinod, Saif pencilled in Bebo at the outset for a challenging, powerful role.
Though writer-director Sridhar Raghavan’s spy thriller goes on the floors later in the year, it is learnt that the Agent Vinod character has been moulded not only like 007, but also on Jack Bauer (the government agent in the American TV series 24) as well as Jason Bourne, the signature character of a CIA assassin in Robert Ludlum’s novels and its film adaptations.
To the rescue
Agent Vinod is slated to be filmed at exotic locations all over the globe. The source continues, “A string of events unfold in the film with a caretaker being murdered and a grave dug open in Uzbekistan. In Hamburg, a scientist is kidnapped.
While in London, a painter is murdered. Elsewhere, an Indian agent is caught as he’s spying. He manages to flee and send a warning that someone is planning a conspiracy against India. This is when Agent Vinod steps in to save the country from disaster.”
Manage heart’s affairs the Saif way

Don’t blow it away: Saif Ali Khan will speak on how to manage a healthy heart. Here shown in a file photo with Kareena Kapoor
When it comes to matters of heart, Saif Ali Khan is not so lucky as portrayed on screen. The Chhote Nawab has already had a heart attack and angioplasty done. So his heart is fixed not just on Bebo but also under the surgeon’s knife, at least once.
A communications company has now decided to make him share his secrets on how to manage the affairs of the heart. Off course not the romantic kind but those pertaining to health.
The do is scheduled to be held at a medical college and is christened ‘Dil ka Darbar’ but the nawab’s queen would not be there. Bebo kahin naraz na ho jaye.
